Notes on Participation: Thinking critically 28.10.20

I think Inclusive Arts is…

“Making art together, in collaboration with each other”.

“Collaborative creativity”.

What is Inclusive Arts Practice?

  • Collaborations with marginalised and non-marginalised artists
  • Process as a two-way exchange
  • Placing the non marginalised artist in the role of collaborator

Say NO to the word INCLUSION – as gets rid of the hierarchy and labels- offers a more fluid ‘structure’.

Inclusive art is related to, but it is NOT:

  • Outsider art
  • Socially engaged practice
  • Disability art
  • Art therapy

Contexts within which participatory arts takes place:

  • Galleries
  • Theatres
  • Community Centres
  • Museums
