Isamaya

Isamaya Ffrench is a makeup artist from Cambridge. She started her carer as a kids face painter and got work as a face painter by word of mouth. She got lucky with doing work with ID magazine and working with photographer Mathew Stone.

Her work can be seem as quite dark and creative, challenging what is typically seen as beautiful in the fashion industry. She has a background in theatre and dance which comes across in her work, using herself as a model in her own work frequently. Although her work is very flamboyant and over the top, it is still clean, everything has a place and quite sleek looking which I find very interesting.

Francis Upritchard – Wetwang Slack

I visited the barbican centre to see the ‘Wetwang slack’ exhibition by Francis Upritchard. The exhibition was full of lifelike, small scale polymer sculptures of characters, painted different colours with enhanced features. In this exhibition, Upritchard plays largely with scale, colour and texture. Visiting this exhibition has inspired me to experiment with colours and textures on the face to progress in my project.

PROJECTION SHOOT

I have created a concept board for a shoot I plan to do with a projector. This shoot is going to show how fast fashion and brands use and dispose of materials quickly but not recycling materials and how they end up in the ocean. I want to project images of fabrics or something onto the model to show how soon we could be effected by polluting the ocean.

PROJECT FEMALE

Planned shoot – ‘Project Female’ by Ellie Bishop-Williams

Ellie bishop-Williams is a second year fashion design student who has recently created her own brand of sportswear which I want to showcase in out magazine.

‘In the process of developing the movement names ‘Project Female’ aimed at empowering and encouraging young girls/women to use dance as of a way of celebrating themselves and other females around them.’

‘Project Female’ is anti fast-fashion because everything has been designed from scratch, and the designs are made to be long lasting because they are used for sports. Its not made to be a fashion trend, its made to showcase her dancers, choreography and other women who want to get into dance.

Fashion Direction

Fashion Direction

-Our magazine is based around sustainability and anti fast fashion, so we wanted to ensure we keep the clothing more street wear esc instead of high end fashion. We are trying to stay away from fashion trends in general, and showcase up and coming designers who are conscious about sustainability it shows in their work.

-In my shoots I want to keep my images as untouched and raw as possible as I think it fits the theme of our magazine a lot better.

Photographic Direction

-I want to keep my images very raw and real, I have been using a mixture of digital and film, however I think the images on film are more fitting for this issue of our magazine.

-I have been taking some inspiration from Ronan Mckenzie and her way of helping boost up and coming designers/photographers/models etc. All of her zines and magazines and website is full of new and up coming artists because she believes the fashion industry only use a certain type of people and artists etc with a following already which is what she wants to change, but using people who wouldn’t’t typically be featured, to give them a chance.

Boston Matrix

Cash Cow

–       Women’s wear

Women’s wear has only recently been brought into their lines so there I room for improvement but it has been selling well so far.

Dogs

–       Accessories

Hats, scarfs and gloves are virtually invisible on their website, they should look to revamp their accessories line.

Stars

–       Menswear

For example, men’s t-shirts. Trousers and jackets are highly popular on their website and easily found.

Question Marks

–       Shoes

A range of trainers but all highly priced which could affect sales, also they look similar to a lot of trainers on the market so people may choose to pay the same money but for a more established brand.

SWOT

Strengths –       Wide range of high quality clothing for men

–       Reasonably priced for the quality

–       Starting to introduce women’s wear

–       Instagram account kept up to date

–       Garments are in tune with current trends

Weaknesses –       Little range for women to choose and shop from

–       Not a well-known brand

–       Weak advertising techniques

Opportunities –       Branch out in social media more

–       Create more campaigns to involve a wider range of audience

Threats –       High street brands creating similar garments for cheaper

–       Some pieces are similar to other well-known brands, so people are more likely to buy from the brand that is more established

–       Economic downturn
