Cash Cow

–       Women’s wear

Women’s wear has only recently been brought into their lines so there I room for improvement but it has been selling well so far.

Dogs

–       Accessories

Hats, scarfs and gloves are virtually invisible on their website, they should look to revamp their accessories line.

Stars

–       Menswear

For example, men’s t-shirts. Trousers and jackets are highly popular on their website and easily found.

Question Marks

–       Shoes

A range of trainers but all highly priced which could affect sales, also they look similar to a lot of trainers on the market so people may choose to pay the same money but for a more established brand.

SWOT

Strengths –       Wide range of high quality clothing for men

–       Reasonably priced for the quality

–       Starting to introduce women’s wear

–       Instagram account kept up to date

–       Garments are in tune with current trends

Weaknesses –       Little range for women to choose and shop from

–       Not a well-known brand

–       Weak advertising techniques

Opportunities –       Branch out in social media more

–       Create more campaigns to involve a wider range of audience

Threats –       High street brands creating similar garments for cheaper

–       Some pieces are similar to other well-known brands, so people are more likely to buy from the brand that is more established

–       Economic downturn

Sub Brand Ideas

The brand I have chosen to create a sub brand for is the brand ‘Alyx’. Alyx is an American fashion company creating high end clothes. The whole vibe of the brand is urbanisation, dystopia and in recent look books they created almost, alien like images, which is the theme that underlies a lot of my work. After doing a lot of research into macro and mega trends, the two trends I have decided to focus on are Dark Wonder and Psychotropic. Alongside these trends, I have also done a lot of research into ‘distrust in society’ and how we never really know who we have put in power and how we are constantly being tracked by the government, so because of this, I have decided to call my brand ‘Tracked’. The concept behind my brand will be ‘undress to impress’ as I have found that Alyx don’t have a lot of underwear or clothes that expose a lot of the skin. In my look book, I want to have images of sci-fi/alien like clothing using holographic colours, crushed velvet and other visually pleasing items.

Music Influences

For this photography and styling project, we have started looking into the use of psychedelics and alcohol to enhance or change ones perception of the world. We want to portrait this in our images so we have started looking at different music videos with the same aesthetic that we are looking for. The first music video we have looked at and taken inspiration from is the ‘LSD’ video by ASAP Rocky. The video has a ‘trippy’ vibe throughout, which is achieved by distorting some of the footage and having bright colours throughout. I think our final images will be heavily influenced by this music video and the meaning behind it.

Feminism Avant Garde – The Photographer’s Gallery

Last week, I went up to London with the other people in my group to visit the Photographer’s Gallery to see the Feminism Avant Garde exhibition. We decided to go to this exhibition because so far we have kind of decided we want to focus our project on Distortion or Identity and looking quickly online, it looked like we would get a lot of useful information from here to help out project get started. Whilst looking around the exhibition, I came across a photography series called ‘Self’ by an artist called ‘Annegret Soltau’. In the first few images, Soltau has wrapped thread around her face quite subtly. However as the potos progress it gives the effect of a cocoon, concealing her identity or trapping who she is, which i found really interesting and its inspired me to try something similar with different materials for my project. At the end of the photos she is photographed cutting the thread and kind of freeing herself from who she is pretending to be and showing her true identity.img_3833 img_3836

Tate Modern

Last week I decided to take a visit to London to go to the Tate Modern to help me with my project work. I decided to go to the Tate because it has a wide range of exhibitions and different artists to take inspiration from. I didn’t go for any exhibition in particular, I was mainly looking for photography inspiration for my project. Although I didn’t find much photography work that inspired me, I did see a few sculpture pieces that I thought were interesting and I ,might use for referencing in my sketchbook.
