Life Drawing

Whilst at home during Easter I took part in a life-drawing class at my old college, as I wanted to get as much practice drawing the human figure as I can. I chose to do 2, 3 and 5 minute  drawings so that I would make quicker more astute decisions in my work, the faster gestures and poses allow you to find the underlying curves, the angles and tension points that allow me to portray the movement and fluidity. I enjoyed working in charcoal the most, I think it frees up the way I draw because it’s quite a messy media, so I’m not able to get caught up in details and precision.

I created these paintings after the session, inspired by the photographs of the model dressed with glow sticks, I used watercolour as I thought that it would best capture the fluidity and movement of the light, and I decided to add some features with fine-liner to create some really interesting abstract figures. Although I don’t think that this style of painting the human figure will have much relevance in my project moving forward.
