Next in my project, I decided to try some blind contour drawing, I thought this would be beneficial as I wanted to develop my hand-eye coordination as I was struggling with it whilst doing my observational drawing. At first, I found it very difficult to not constantly look down at the page, but eventually, after I broke that habit and approached the technique with more patience, I found it quite a calming exercise, as it allowed me to slow down and take in what I was seeing.
I used some of my blind contour drawings as the base for some quick acrylic paintings, with these paintings I aimed to experiment with colour palettes, particularly using vibrant colours and unnatural, exaggerated skin tones. I’m really pleased with the way that these turned out, I think that the differing skin tones on one figure and clashing colours work really well in portraying a confident and bold atmosphere.
