I really enjoyed doing life-drawing because it gave me practice in drawing the human figure which I find quite challenging. I enjoyed doing the shorter 2-3 minute poses because it forced me to make quicker more astute decisions in my work. The quicker drawings don’t give me much time to capture everything, so it forces me to trust my instincts when drawing, and helps me focus on capturing emotion and movement instead of complete accuracy, which I tend to get stuck on if I have no time limit. I can focus on finding the underlying curves, the angles and tension points that allow me to portray the movement and fluidity. I made sure to work in a range of media including: pencil, colour pencil, charcoal, and oil pastel. I enjoyed working in oil pastel the most, I think it frees up the way I draw because its quite a messy media, so I’m not able to get caught up in details and precision.
