I enjoyed doing mono printing because its a loose and imprecise way of working and I think it worked quite well with my simple design. If I were to do it again I would improve by not using as much ink, as it stained the background more than I would’ve liked, and not pressing down as hard with the pencil all the time, in order to create a more clear variation in tones.
I really liked doing relief printing and I’d like to develop this technique in future by layering stencils and colours on one design. My favourite outcomes were those with a photocopy of one of my drawings in the background, as the colours showed through the printed ink, creating new colours and depth. I’m quite pleased with the outcome of the bugs with the finer details, but if I were to do it again I would cut deeper into the card to show more of a contrast and highlight the lines.
I think that my carbon prints worked really well, I managed to get lots of tonal contrast and all of the detail transferred really clearly. I like the effect that the print has as it creates a very smooth surface texture, that lines are very clear and I could easily make very dark marks.
