Next to Eric Gill’s work is a book he wrote open on a page instructing the reader on how to fashion their own quill pens from feathers, and below are two of his quill pens and a bone-handled knife for carving the nibs.
I think one day when I find some feathers I will try doing some calligraphy with these – I’ve only ever used metal nibs before. I like the way that lines you draw or write with can be influenced by what you draw them with, and this can be a reflection of the materials found in a certain place.
