National Careers Week: A look at where to look for graduate schemes

A huge bonus of being a graduate is that you can apply for a graduate scheme!

Graduate schemes are job roles created especially for graduates as an entry route in a number of career areas. They are often structured and available for 1-3 years to enable new graduates to get the experience you need before moving on with your career. Some are in a specific area of work and some give you the opportunity to rotate around different departments in a business so that you can try out a few different roles and see which one you like best.

They can be competitive to get into in some cases but recruiters are looking for a wide range of people to join their business so as long as you meet their entry requirements and are interested in the role you shouldn’t let this put you off applying.

There are many places to look for graduate schemes, here are some good places to start:

  • STEM GraduatesSTEM Women has opportunities for biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering (various disciplines), mathematics and physics graduates and other sciences.
