Throughout researching and developing my ideas regarding the theme ‘Future Bodies’, I questioned what the perfect body truly is. By media it is defined as something that is pretty much impossible to achieve unless plastic surgery is undergone, and I began to question how that makes us distrust what we see online, as well as what we see in the mirror.
Above is an illustration I created to demonstrate the features of this unrealistic perfect body, such as the extremely small, narrow waist, perky breasts, and wide hips. The desired waist to hip ratio is extremely hard to achieve but many people strive to create a ‘perfect’ hourglass.
In the above illustration I again explored these desired features such as the narrow waist and wider hips. I have demonstrated the contrasting waist to hip ratio and how it is drastically different. I also paired this acrylic illustration with a digital drawing where I created the outline which I layered on top to help ground the illustration and make it look more polished.
I created the above illustration after researching Winnie Harlow and the skin condition Vitiligo. I wanted to show how skin can have varying textures and how our pigmentation is not always even unlike how many airbrushed bodies on social media appear. However I stuck with the previous exploration of the unrealistic and impossible to achieve waist to hip ratio. Like the previous illustration I layered a digital outline on top to help make the oil paint illustration seem more polished.
