idem discussions

Over the past two weeks, I have been finalising all of my content for idem preparing for the final layout and hand-in. Leah and I revisited Disrupted Sanctuary, our collaboration and curated our written content to be alongside the narrative photography. We decided that due to having such a strong focus on narrative and the theme of mental health, it would be really fun to have a recorded interview/conversation/podcast alongside the visuals.

We originally wanted to be featured on BN2 Collective, Emma Adam’s FMP Podcast as this provided us with the perfect opportunity to deepen the collaboration, as well as work with a creative who has experience in digital production and podcasts. However, this was not possible due to timings and the availability of the Watts podcast room, at first we (Leah and I) were quite disheartened and were not sure if we would be able to still curate what we had in mind. However, we were encouraged by Jules (our tutor) to go for it and so we decided to see if we could make it work.

We knew that it would be quite difficult to frame the conversation as we no longer had the option of being guests, so we came up with the concept of ‘idem discussions’ and ‘reverie conversations’ where we would each discuss the collaboration with questions to guide us. As explained in my sketchbook we used the questions/responses in both versions but with different introductions and outros.

This was quite challenging as neither of us had experience in this type of content creation and so it took us a while to get the right balance between professional and casual. Overall, I am really happy with the recorded conversation for idem discussions and feel that although it was out of my comfort zone, I really forced myself to go for it. This has also made me reflect on how far my work and confidence have come, not only this academic year but over the course of my degree. I would never have felt confident enough to create this format of work previously, and I am really proud of myself for giving it a go.

For the visuals, Leah and I worked together to create a promotional image for both of our features. Leah completed the graphics and layout whilst I edited the image.

In idem itself I have included a QR code which links to the audio so that my readers can easily access this feature. I have also included the transcript in idem so that the reader does not need to listen to the episode if they do not want to.

Overall, I feel that by working alongside Leah to create this feature I have been able to push myself creatively which has been really positive.
