Reflection: Editorial Module

This module has probably been my favourite so far throughout my time at university. I was sceptical at first, being put in a large group to create a whole magazine under the current climate seemed impossible and daunting, but i must say the purpose I feel it has given me has been incredibly. Getting to know the other girls in my group throughout this process has been so lovely, and although the strong majority of our meetings have had to be on Teams, it has made the first half of this academic year seem much more social than I was expecting it to.

I feel that I have learnt so much about the way other creatives work, and getting to see everyone’s unique skills as we have specialised has been amazing. I have learnt so much about roles such as graphics and visual promotion through working in a group, it has been truly eye-opening seeing how others work within their roles.

It has also made me see everyone as human. I used to frequently feel intimidated by the talented people I work alongside as they seem to be effortlessly perfect, but obviously no one is perfect and seeing the others be open about their struggles, as well as being supportive when I have faced hurdles, has really highlighted to me that everyone wants to see you achieve the best.

Being the copywriter of the group has made me realise how much I had missed writing, although I had never written articles before, I used to love creative writing and enjoyed writing academic essays. It has inspired me to look more into doing placements next year that focus on editorial and article style writing if possible. I would love to develop my skills even further and this is most likely where I want to continue specialising throughout my remaining time at university.
