Due to Tript aiming to discuss important issues with an activist’s stance to help educate and empower the reader, I wrote an article on Toxic Masculinity to go in our feminism section. I researched the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial and looked at the overwhelming backlash that Depp received, compared to how little Heard received demonstrating how men can more easily be perceived as an abuser rather than victim. This lead me to title the article ‘Crybaby’, after Johnny Depp’s film.
I worked alongside the graphic designer and photographer to ensure the visuals were cohesive with my article and written work which I feel we achieved highly successfully. I thought it was essential to include contact details for helplines as I wrote about serious issues such as domestic abuse. We also decided that alongside the blue graphic design, we would also include a pink version to defy the most original of gender stereotypes.
