Are you a researcher working in the fast-developing field of Creative Health?

In February 2025, the Centre for Arts & Wellbeing at the University of Brighton will be hosting a conference to explore emerging themes and findings in research that examine the dynamic relationships between creativity, the arts, health, wellbeing and care.

This is part of a two-day event organised in partnership with the Robin Hood Health Foundation, Brighton & Hove City Council, The Old Market and Creative Future. The conference will celebrate achievements in Creative Health since the last More Culture Less Medicine conference five years ago, including the groundbreaking Hera Partnership work supported by Brighton & Hove City Council. What are the pathways forward to make creative health an ever more accessible and inclusive healthcare option?

Schedule:

Day One, Friday 14th February: What is Creative Health now? An immersive day for practitioners, policymakers and others working in the fields of arts, health, care and wellbeing (at The Old Market venue)

Day Two, Saturday 15th February: Creative Health: Researching the future of health & care. What do we know and why does it matter? What next for Creative Health research? (at the Sallis Benney theatre)

We are inviting researchers to submit the any of the following for consideration of
inclusion in the programme:

  • Abstracts of 500 words outlining research you would like to present in either single talks or panel discussions
  • Proposals for posters
  • Proposals for practical sessions on creative research methodologies

This could include, but is not limited to:

  • Examples of best practice
  • Research and practice seeking to make the field more inclusive
  • Work that is linked to changing policy and shifting minds
  • Community engagement
  • Relating creative & cultural practices to themes of organisational change
  • Work that explores the economic dimensions of creative health
  • Epidemiological studies

Some questions you might consider are:

  • What does the NHS need from Creative Health? Or the Care System?
  • How can creative health support prevention and prevent avoidable decline?
  • How should we understand impact?
  • How can creative health address health equity or community integration?
  • How can creative health support a good life for staff and patients?

We are keen to encourage a wide variety of submissions representing the incredible diversity, talent and potential in the field of creative health, and welcome both conventional and innovative formats, and from within and outside of academic institutions.

Deadline for submissions: 5pm, Friday 22nd November 2024
