Summary

Online creative research methods symposium open to all, with Elle Whitcroft (BSMS) and Sandro Voi (University of Hertfordshire)

The Creative Research Methods Group invite you to join us for another vibrant symposium on creative research methods on Monday 9th September 2024 14:00-15:30 BST on Microsoft Teams. The session features:

Elle Whitcroft, Brighton and Sussex Medical School: ‘Between LGBTQ+ Generations: Using Creative Methods in LGBTQ+ Public Health’

Elle will discuss a UKRI-funded research project and wellbeing intervention designed to encourage LGBTQ+ intergenerational connection, using creative methods including collage, comics, zines, painting, creative writing, and art talking groups. This practice is designed to create a picture framing the complex, shifting, evolving nature of LGBTQ+ intergenerational identity and history.

Sandro Voi, University of Hertfordshire: ‘‘Implementing Creative Methodologies within a Post-humanist Approach for Research in Clinical Psychology’

This presentation builds on Sandro Voi’s thesis methodology, using Narrative Inquiry and arts-based methods to delve into Trans and Non-Binary sexualities alongside gender. Sandro advocates for creative methods for two key reasons: they capture additional layers of participants’ internal worlds, empower participants, and offer a neuroinclusive approach to discussing the topic; and they bridge the gap between science and art to reach wider audiences and challenge the status quo.

The group is supported by the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing. It is open to all who share our passion for creative methods and our desire to provide a supportive, stimulating space within which to explore these. No advance sign-up is required; just turn up on the day if you wish to join us.
