Summary

You are invited to an online symposium exploring creative research methods, with University of Brighton researchers Matt Adams and Rumana Hashem on Tuesday 28th May.

The Creative Research Methods Group would like to invite you to join us for another vibrant symposium on creative research methods on Tuesday 28th May 2024 14:00-15:30 BST on Microsoft Teams. This session features:

Matt Adams, University of Brighton: ‘Arts-based Research, Animal Studies and Pavlov’s Dogs: Making the Familiar Strange in Psychology’ Matt will talk about the use of creative, arts-based research to explore the lives of experimental animals in Ivan Pavlov’s physiological and psychological studies. He will describe the production of a graphic novel and a public art installation designed to reimagine and re-present the detail of the lives and treatment of the dogs in Pavlov’s care, as entangled in wider human-animal relationships and events.

Rumana Hashem, University of Brighton: ‘Anti-Oppressive Oral History and Narrative Methods in Doing Research with Refugees and on Gendered Violence’

In this presentation, Rumana will draw on two different pieces of research undertaken at the University of East London before Covid-19. Rumana will consider how we can conduct ethical research by using anti-oppressive oral history methods and auto-biographical interviews on sensitive topics, such as working with asylum seekers and women.

The group is supported by the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing. It is open to all who share our passion for creative methods and our desire to provide a supportive, stimulating space within which to explore these. No advance sign-up is required; just turn up on the day if you wish to join us.
