The University of Brighton has a long and illustrious history in art and design practices, medicine and healthcare, and was a national pioneer in university, community engagement and co-productive research. The Centre for Arts and Wellbeing brings these strengths together, fostering novel creative and collaborative modes and methods through which a range of health and wellbeing issues can be investigated and brought to public benefit. Members are drawn from across the university’s disciplines, bringing together practitioners who work in art, design, film, architecture and creative writing with colleagues from healthcare, social sciences, environmental studies and medicine.

During the launch you will be introduced to the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing and hear about some of its work, aims and ambitions. You will be introduced to the major strands of research and enterprise where creative practices interrelate with social, environmental and individual wellbeing.

We are delighted to be welcoming our special guest speaker, Maria Pia Bernardoni, who is a photography curator with a special connection with Africa and particular interest in managing intercultural art projects that offer a different perspective on gender and migration issues that help to create positive change. Maria Pia is the curator of international exhibitions for the African Artists’ Foundation and Lagos Photo festival.
