Fire Procedure

 

Fire Call Point

On discovering a fire:

Sound the fire alarm (red break glass call point)
Dial 999 to call the fire brigade on a University phone ring 9999
Dial 2222 to notify the University switchboard

On hearing the alarm:

exit quickly and calmly
leave the building by the shortest route available
report to the designated assembly point
go directly to open air
close the door behind you
DO NOT re-enter the building
DO NOT enter an adjacent building unless directed by the Building Evacuation Controller
DO NOT stop to collect personal belongings
DO NOT use lifts

Evacuation Procedures for Disabled Persons:

Every individual who has a disability which may affect their ability to recognise that an emergency is taking place or to evacuate a building unaided needs to have a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan drawn up (PEEP). See your course leader or line manager if you fall into this category

Fire Wardens:

To enable a fast and efficient evacuation of University Buildings, the University uses fire wardens to assist in the process. Fire Wardens are not trained to be fire fighters. Their main function is to assist the progress of the evacuation and to report its progress to the Building Evacuation Controller.

AED Defibrillator

AED stands for An Automated External Defibrillator. It is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia. the video below demonstrates how you can use an AED:

At the School of Art campus, an AED defibrillator is located at outside Sallis Benney Theater, Ground Floor, Grand Parade:
