Today while reading up on Lewes Neighbourhood Plan, I found some key literature that I highlighted, once again the repetitive expression of important for social infrastructure, heritage and improvement to the built environment is the key point within the plan.
It also had some information on improved pedestrian routes, cycling routes, countryside gateways and the riverside corridor. The riverside corridor goes right the way through the NSQ, for this reason, I must remember to make sure my design attends to this. A countryside gateway is also at the end of my site, these are two new very key things to think about. As for the pedestrian and cycling routes I want to build on these and make them even better than what is already within the plan!
Below are the rest of the highlighted literature that I will be incorporating into my masterplan.
Also, today I stumbled across a feasibility study done by Lewes Phoenix Rising, it is a feasibility study on the existing structure with plans on how to take it apart and reassemble. As this is something that I am focusing on within my scheme (the reuse of existing structures) I have come up with a potentially great idea. What if this structure could be taken apart and reassembled along the river, this 1) keeps the historic features of what was once in the NSQ, 2) it could be used for workshop space, retail, and restaurants 3) could potentially be used for affordable housing, 4) provides both covered and open walkways, and finally adds to the feature of the riverside corridor!
Finally, below is an analysis carried out by Lewes Phoenix Rising on the area of space that is being demolished, I can use this analysis to make sure that my final design accommodates the requirements of actual creative/cultural/restaurant space.
