Chou et al. (2013) demonstrate that there are two key reasons that users choose to join activities. Firstly people who influence the user are using them and therefore the user will join in. Secondly things that are relevant to the users fields of interest, be that work or hobbies. Sudo et al. (2013) demonstrate the growth in social networking sites and how it is becoming increasingly important in varying societies.
It is difficult for users to access information they deem as useful via twitter (Sudo et al., 2013) therefore the importance of recommending information to one another is becoming essential. The definition of useful information on twitter is seen as the rate at which tweets are retweeted (Hong, Dan and Davison, 2011)
Therefore measuring someone’s impact on twitter is important. The lower the following to follower’s ratio the better, as generally it means that an entity is more influential (Siegler, 2009). However there are a lot of people who gain this by following and then deleting users to inorganically swell following. However the greater the impact of your follower the greater the impact of your twitter.
