Four Sports Journalism MA students got their training off to a flying start by winning press accreditation with the NFL.
Reporters Ron Alderman, Miguel Villafuerte, Jackson Denney and George Williams attended the media days at the New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings Media Days. Both teams were in the UK to take part in the 2024 NFL London Games.
During the media days the students produce content for the course’s learning tool, the overtimeonline website. Their reports included comment on practice sessions, head coaches and player quotes. Ron Alderman also managed to get himself interviewed by US national broadcaster CBS – scroll to 1 minute 10 to see what Ron had to say.
Course Leader Owen Evans, who set up the NFL opportunity for the students, said: “Learning in the field is one of the best ways to rapidly develop as a sports reporter.
“Asking questions to global stars like New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers in your first two weeks of your training is extremely daunting, but our reporters were excellent on the day. They all hit their deadlines and seamlessly fitted into the professional environment.”
