Graduates 2024: Teresa Grau Caro: Graphic Design

“I enjoyed the freedom to experiment in the course, with helpful workshops to guide me through projects. Plus, it’s right by the sea, and Brighton is an awesome city for students!”

Please tell us a bit about your work and your influences

Describing my work is challenging because I enjoy working with various mediums, from editorial design to motion graphics. My passion for learning is reflected in the purpose of my projects, which aim to educate the audience. Coming from Seville, a city in southern Spain, I draw inspiration from the rich cultural heritage that surrounded me while growing up.

What made you choose your course?

I enjoyed the freedom to experiment in the course, with helpful workshops to guide me through projects. Plus, it’s right by the sea, and Brighton is an awesome city for students!

Can you tell us about your favourite part of your studies and how it helped the development of you and your practice.

Being able to access the bookbinding or letterpress workshops has been awesome. I’ve been able to explore techniques that I hadn’t had a chance to try before and it has increased my love for analogue processes which are very much part of my practice now.

Can you tell us about any staff who particularly inspired you?

Gavin Fry has been incredibly helpful throughout my uni experience and has given me really valuable advice 🙂

Can you tell us your plans after graduation?

I moving to London and plan on finding a job at a book design studio or in the arts and culture sector.

Finally if you could give your 17 year old self any advice about going to university what would it be?

Be confident! Being surrounded by so many talented people in the course, made me doubt myself and my abilities as a designer. However, I took this as motivation to put in the work!
