Please tell us a bit about your work and your influences

“I try to keep my design practice as diverse as possible. Recently, I’ve developed a special interest in book design and binding. My projects cover a range of themes, from queer culture to the unique design of chairs. I’m inspired by a variety of designers, especially Lawrence Weiner for his creative use of typography and Irma Boom for her innovative book designs. Their work has really influenced my approach and encouraged me to experiment more in my own projects.”

What made you choose your course?

“While studying my pre-degree course, I had the chance to explore various creative paths, and visual communication was the one that truly inspired me. This led me to specialize in graphic design and start applying to universities. My tutors strongly encouraged me to choose Brighton, as they considered it to have an excellent graphic design program. Their recommendation, combined with my passion for visual communication, made it an easy decision.”

Can you tell us about your favourite part of your studies and how it helped the development of you and your practice.

“There have been some great opportunities during my time studying at Brighton. One of my favorite parts has been attending professional practice talks by established designers in the industry. These talks were incredibly inspiring and offered valuable insights into the real-world applications of design. They helped me understand the different pathways my career could take and provided practical advice that I could apply to my own projects. This experience has been instrumental in shaping my approach to design and in developing my confidence as a future professional.”

Can you tell us about any staff who particularly inspired you?

“There are some very inspirational staff members on my course who have been incredibly supportive throughout my years at Brighton. For my final semester, my tutor Gavin Fry provided invaluable guidance and support, helping me navigate through challenging projects. Additionally, Helen, the book arts technician, was always there to assist whenever I was producing my books.”
