BAFTA-award winning director at Animation course screening event

Brighton’s Animation BA(Hons) is hosting BAFTA-award winning director and animator Oliver Smyth at its student screening event next week.

FRAMPS 2024 

FRAMPS was created in 2023 by Michael Chidubem, one of our animation lecturers with vast industry, work and teaching experience. The next edition of FRAMPS will takes place on Friday, May 31, 2024, between 9:30am – 12noon. This year’s event will take place in Lecture Theatre 105FRAMPS stands for Frames Per Second and is created to provide opportunities for animation and creative students in general to meet & greet, connect, showcase their works, be inspired and network with each other in a fun way. This year’s event is proudly supported by Belong at Brighton 

This years’ event comes with a loaded and interesting lineup of activities to ensure that the audience have a memorable and enjoyable time. Activities lined up include:  

  • Showcase of a variety of students’ works, animation and creative projects. 
  • Award Ceremony and Premiere of five animated short films as part of the “I AM MORE THAN” project by Brighton Women’s Society in conjunction with a team of University of Brighton animation students. 
  • Formal presentation and elaboration of all activities lined up for the Level 6 Grad Show by Haniyyah Nauzeer (class rep for L6 Animation) 
  • Fun games and live quizzes. 
  • Special talk and presentation by Oliver Smyth, a BAFTA winning director and animator with 20 years of industry experience. Smyth is the Creative Director of the animation company, Flock London. Oli has worked as story assistant on Tim Burton’s stop motion feature The Corpse Bride. Directed several internet series (staring Gemma Chan, Josh Dallas and David Scofield) which won a WEBBY and was nominated for an EMMY. This is one presentation you don’t want to miss. 
  • Live demonstration and presentation by Jack Morrow from Animotive using a VR Headset on how to complete an animated project in less than 20minutes. Jack will be creating everything real time with just his VR Headset. This is really fun to watch. This technology can be used for Film, Games and Animation. The possibilities are limitless.  
  • Refreshment sponsored by Belong at Brighton.

*Note that even if you were unable to get an online ticket, you are more than welcome to still attend as the venue can take up to 100 people.
