Graduates 2024: Alice Triff: Photography

“The course puts an emphasis on concept-based practice and the theory lectures often inform our individual practical work, making our projects stronger.”

Please tell us a bit about your work and your influences

“The series I am exhibiting at the graduate show is titled ‘There Is No Arriving.’ It’s a project shot on analogue technology and hand printed in the darkroom. My approach to image making involves staging subjects before the camera. I find there is a certain irony when intentionality is used in the depiction of content that forgoes the rationale.”

What made you choose your course?

“The course puts an emphasis on concept-based practice, which is where my interest in photography lies. The theory lectures, that run alongside, often inform our individuals practical work, making our projects stronger.”

Can you tell us about any staff who particularly inspired you?

“I had Martin Seeds as a tutor several times. He has a very good understanding of visual language and a great knowledge of artists, which really helped with my learning. He really pushed me to be ambitious with my work and to pay attention to the small details.”
