Fashion Comms students get involved with Sustainable Fashion Week

With sustainability a key element of the course, many of our Fashion Communication and Business Studies BA(Hons) students were involved in this exciting showcase last month, whether assisting with the event or speaking.

Over two days, Brighton’s Sustainable Fashion Week saw with community events happening across the city the week leading up to the event. The idea is to challenge society to rethink our relationship with clothes by re-wearing, sharing and caring for the clothes we already have, provide the tools needed to extend the life-cycle of our clothes and empower the community to demand accountability for the harmful practices of the fashion industry.

The weekend was packed with clothes swaps, a mend and repair room where members of the public can bring their clothes in to be given a second lease of life, a stylist corner helping you make the most out of the clothes you already own, sustainable market traders ready to showcase their products and services, repair/upcycling workshops and a speakers forum with slow fashion activists and fair wage campaigners sharing their top tips on how to make a positive change in the world by buying less.
