Painting graduate Miranda Forrester making waves at Soho House

University of Brighton art graduate Miranda Forrester is combining designing fabrics for Soho House’s new Brighton outpost with international painting success.

Miranda, who graduated from  Fine Art Painting BA (Hons) in 2019,  received the commission to provide textile designs for the new  Soho House Brighton Beach Club, after a string of exhibitions in the UK and Switzerland, and a show at Brighton’s Phoenix gallery .

Miranda is also currently exhibiting paintings as part of a group show in Nigeria at Tiwani Contemporary in Lagos which runs until August 13. She is also among recently acquired artists to the Arts Council Collection.

Miranda describes her work as exploring the queer black female gaze in painting, seeking to address the long time invisibility of black women in the traditional history of art.

Speaking about her time studying at University of Brighton, Miranda said: “I really enjoyed my years at Brighton. The course enabled me to explore my ideas, and was instrumental to the development of my painting style and current body of work. I was able to hone in on how I want to represent my ideas and concerns in my work, while being exposed to different artists and ways of thinking.”
