Graduates 2022: Kristlin Visnapuu: Design for Digital Media

Brighton is an excellent place for students and creatives with many start-up opportunities and societies.

As a DDM student at the University of Brighton, I have discovered my interests in 3D and 2D motion graphics. I enjoy combining illustration, typography, and sculpting skills to generate experimental creative (digital) outcomes that often involve immersive technologies.

My work is influenced by the ideas of singularity, digitalisation, value theory and how those ideas reflect in sociology.

My final project, Machine of Living,  is a mixed media sculpture utilising projection mapping technology. The main focus of my project is to visualise digitalisation of the everyday life and how humans and machines become ‘one organism.’ I have explored interactive technologies, human connection with the digital world, and how the boundaries between the digital and the ‘real’ world overlap with the advances in technology.

How have you found your course and time at Brighton?

I have genuinely enjoyed my time as a DDM student, and it has been thus far one of my most significant achievements.

As a mature student, balancing studies and everyday commitments has been complicated. However, the University and my course have been very understanding, flexible, and helpful.

Brighton is an excellent place for students and creatives with many start-up opportunities and societies.

How did you choose your course – why did you choose to study DDM?

I chose DDM because the course covers all of my previous creative experiences and interests and expands on those. There are many pathways to choose from, and the course is very flexible.

The students are encouraged to explore and discover their artistic styles through experimenting with various industry-standard software and design pathways.

What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I will hopefully find a (hybrid) role in a creative agency as a Junior Motion Designer/ 3D Artist and work for a couple of years to fund my Master’s Degree. Also, I will be doing some freelance design work.

In the future, I would like to continue my studies and complete a Master’s Degree in Visual Cultures, Curating, and Contemporary Art at Aalto University in Finland.
