Connecting with people and being savvy is what our Media, Industry and Innovation degree is all about, so this event looking at AI and video marketing techniques for social media was an ideal field trip for these students.
Media, Industry and Innovation (MII) students visited Sharing Social: a series of events that aim “to connect like-minded savvy (and savvy-to-be) social media professionals together in real life”. A group of second-year MII students attended along with course leader Ryan Burns and Iestyn George, module leader for ‘Digital Media Enterprise and Innovation’.
As well as opportunities for networking – organised well so that everybody was involved – there were two great speakers. Farhad Divecha from AccuraCast spoke about how artificial intelligence can be used to ensure that marketing campaigns don’t waste money contacting whole groups of people that would never be interested in a product or service.
Mark Gaisford from Red Spout introduced his company’s innovation approach to recruitment: video marketing on LinkedIn. This was particularly interesting to the MII course as Mark works with graduating students to put together online profiles, including video content, that showcase that person’s skills and experience and also their enthusiasm and personality. The group spoke with Mark after his talk and have agreed to run some events together, with something planned for late May 2019, so watch this space.
