The Creative Research Methods Group would like to invite you to join us for another vibrant symposium on creative research methods on Monday 15th April 2024 13:00-14:30 GMT on Microsoft Teams. This session features:

Adam Frank, University of Central Arkansas: ‘Theatre of the Oppressed and Comedy Improv as Restorative Justice for At-Risk Youth in Faulkner County, Arkansas, USA’

Adam will introduce several theatre exercises for at-risk youth and discuss how the Schedler Honors College at the University of Central Arkansas has partnered with Faulkner County Juvenile Court to bring an arts element to the court’s restorative justice program.

Alex Fitch, University of Brighton: ‘Portrayals of Occupation and Identity in Sabba Khan’s graphic novel Roles We Play’

In this talk, which forms part of Alex’s PhD research, and won the 2023 Sabin Award for Comics Scholarship, Alex investigates how Khan’s book “explores what identity, belonging and memory mean for her and her family against the backdrop of… (emigration from) Mirpur in Azad Kashmir, when it was submerged by the waters of a dam built after Partition”. Khan is both a comic book artist and trained architect, and Alex examines how these two aspects of her creative life are observable, and compliment each other, in the pages of her graphic novel.

The group is supported by the Centre for Arts and Wellbeing. It is open to all who share our passion for creative methods and our desire to provide a supportive, stimulating space within which to explore these. No advance sign-up is required; just turn up on the day if you wish to join us.
