Student teachers tackle Geodesic Domes
First year student primary students took part in a team-building challenge constructing Geodesic Domes.
The challenge was related to ‘structures’ in the Design & Technology section of the National Curriculum for Key Stage 1 and 2, but as importantly it offered a fun way for the students to reconnect after the Christmas break.
The students worked in groups to create their domes over the week. Even the heavy Brighton snow didn’t hamper the project with one group managing to complete theirs despite only five of them managing to get to campus.
The finished domes were 2.6m in diameter and 2.25m high. Each was constructed from 195 decorated cardboard panels and a kilometre of gummed-tape!
Many of the students commented that they planned to repeat the project with their own pupils as they move into their teaching careers.
Huge shout out to our amazing technicians who supported the students to complete their task.
