Education Research Seminar 3rd December 2015
The Education Research Centre and School of Education presented this seminar on Thursday 3 December 2015
Bourdieu, Agency and ITT
Chris Sweeney, University of Brighton
Since the Coalition Government (2010-2015), the changes to equality legislation and the recent introduction of alternative routes into initial teacher training (ITT) have begun to marginalize the discourse around social class and professional identity development. Using examples from his recent doctoral research, Chris showed how these changes impact upon trainee teachers’ understanding of social class during their studies and whilst they are placed in schools.
Chris teaches at the University of Brighton, School of Education where he is a Senior Lecturer and route leader for the PGCE and School Direct routes in Computing Education.
