Education Research Seminar – Thursday 9th June 2016

The Education Research Centre and School of Education presented this seminar on 9th June 2016:

The Future of Teacher Education and the role of Europe

Spiral

In the run up to the referendum on the UK’s continued membership of the EU, this timely seminar considered developments in teacher education both here and in other European member states.  The European Commission report “Supporting teaching competence development” (2013) makes primary teacher education a key priority for Europe’s educational policy.  The University of Brighton, School of Education, is partner in an ambitiousthree-year European funded project aiming to contribute to this priority through collaboration between partners in teacher education institutions in five member states.   The partners are; Centre International d’études pédagogiques  (CIEP) (France), Université de Paris Sorbonne (France), Université de Caen Basse-Normandie, Universitad de Alcalá de Henares (Spain), Universität Hamburg (Germany), Hogeschool van Arnhem en Nijmegen (Netherlands).

The seminar shared preliminary findings from the  first year of the project, which facilitated the professional placement of 30 trainee teachers in schools across the partner countries.

The British Council, the consortium partners, educationalists from France, Germany the Netherlands and Spain as well as the University of Brighton contributed their perspectives on the future of Teacher Education and the role of Europe.
