Content for fashion space.

Above is the video I first created that I planned to have on a loop displaying the images I had of my wire sculpture piece being worn. I decided to create the collage instead because I felt that the video didn’t utilise the space I had correctly and also each image wasn’t allowed enough time to be viewed because the frames per second was too quick. I didn’t like how it looked once I slowed the frames per second down so went with the collage instead which I feel worked better in my fashion space.

Wire sketch

I wanted to draft up a sketch of the next wire piece I am going to create for my fashion space. I felt that this would be a good idea because I can create a solid idea digitally before I go a head and physically create as then I waste no time not knowing where to start. Even thought I am happy with the outcome of the main wire sculpture, it was a spur of the moment creation after briefly looking at my moodboard and I don’t really have the time to dally about in this stage of the project.

crit session

In todays session at uni, we were asked to bring in whatever we had made from the previous weeks session so we could put up our fashion spaces as they were at this current stage in order for crits to be completed. This did fill me with dread as I still haven’t made anything solid to go in my fashion space and was hesitant to coming in but I’m trying not to let fear stop me from potential progression and I’m so glad I did go in because I was able to finally gather a solid idea of what my fashion space is going to include and look like…

I’ve known from the start I want to explore sculptural clothing and exoskeleton so went into todays session with the mindset of experimenting with materials. I had to go to the uni shop to buy wire so I could start to experiment I just wasn’t sure what I was going to create. I sort of just went with the flow taking some inspiration from my mood board and the more I experimented, the more  I felt confident for the rest of this project.

When we went around and looked at everyone else’s ideas and work I was also left feeling more at ease as I am not the only person who still hadn’t solidified an idea for the final fashion space. It also felt really refreshing to see how different everybody’s ideas are. I also was very grateful for the feedback that I got within my idea once I explained it as I’m now able to look into my theme from another angle I hadn’t thought of before.

Visualising content for my fashion space

In todays session at uni I started visualising ways I can start making content for my fashion space. I know that I want my fashion space to be an installation that includes handmade objects/garments. One of the first ideas I had that came to mind once I had decided on my theme overall them ‘connected/cyberspace’, was to create a garment using motherboards.

I initially felt excited about this idea however was slightly concerned with how I would source the materials for it as I know I want to try and remain as sustainable as possible and also have it be as low cost as possible.
Once I had done some research and went and asked about this concern was put at ease as one of the tech fix it shops in town kindly donated me the motherboards for free.

I now tried to start practically making my idea however it was not as easy as I thought. I was left feeling slightly overwhelmed because I feel like I always have these ideas in my head and can mentally visualise a final outcome I’m just never sure how to take the steps to get there.

workshop with emma

In todays workshop with Emma we looked at making a 3d space using recycled cardboard and/or foam board. I really enjoyed this workshop because it made me think deeper into the direction I plan on taking this project and also make me feel that I am thinking about things in a more conceptual manner. I liked the freedom of being able to create something out of nothing too.

Future Bodies/Fashion Space Workshop.

Today we took part in a workshop looking at fashion spaces as part of a group in class. We picked a subcategory from a cup and were given ‘drawing and graphics. Then we discussed ideas around our overall topic ‘future bodies’ and came up with a concept around crime scene photos.

I felt that our idea became more and more imaginative and interesting as we made it. Me and another girl were also saying how it felt nice to actually be creating something in university that we were happy with.

I really enjoyed this workshop as I now feel that I am thinking about ideas for my own project from a different point of view as to the directions I can take it.
