For this week we were introduce to Fusion 360 which is a cloud-based CAD/CAM tool for collaborative product development that combines industrial design , mechanical engineering, and machine tool programming into one software solution.
Practice
Are first exercise was to recreate a six sided die, which we will time how long it would take for us to make. I found doing this exercise, it helped develop my understanding of Fusion 360 as it force me to learn the user interface and tools provided.
The process of making the die wasn’t hard, but being efficient by using fewer steps as possible was the most challenging for me. The way I approach to make the die was to first make a square 100mm*100mm, I then went and extruded the square up by 100mm using the extrude tool creating a cube. Once extruded, I place guide line on to the cube on all six faces and went and drew the dots using the circle tool making sure that all dots have the same diameter of 20mm. Once placed, using the extrude tool again and selecting just the dots, i extruded all of them inwards by 5mm. Finally i then went and filleted all the edges of the die by 5mm using the fillet tool. Here is the video showing the process of making the die:
Assignment
Are assignment for this week is to design a 100mm*100mm tile part using Fusion 360 or solid works, and colour it. While document are work with photos/ screenshots and videos to show what we did, what went wrong, and how we might fixed it.
For this assignment I will be using the tile design I made in DP401 Project. I first created a right angle triangle making sure the length and width is 100mm. Once created, i extruded the right angle triangle up by 5mm, and simply place my guide lines dividing the surface of the triangle into section by using the line tool making sure the guide line are closed by adding dimension lines on either end of the guide lines. I then went and selected the section where i divided the right angle shape and extruded the section further up by 4mm. Once extruded i went and used a tool called draft which applies a draft angle to a specific planar faces, making sure the draft angle is 15 degrees. I went and repeated the process of dividing the triangle and drafting each section till i reached the end of the right angled triangle. Once divided, extruded to the right height and draft to the right angle. I went and created a plane that goes along the hypotenuse of the triangle and mirroring the whole design along that plane. Here is the video showing the process of making the tile:
After the making of the tile i went and applied colour by entering rendering mode and selected the colours i wanted on the tile. Here’s a image of the tile with a matt black and red colour way: https://a360.co/2DLePQY. Here is the tile in a 3x 3 arrangement: https://a360.co/2SIcv7s. Here are the dimension of the tile design:
