For this first week we were told to produce a website or blog using WordPress or other methods, which we will use to help document and keep tack of are progress throughout XE404 – Digital fabrication project that we will build upon every week, and should be continually adding material to the blog as we go.

In addition, we were also told create an ‘about me’ page, upload and include an appropriately formatted and labelled image as well as embed an external video.

For my blog, I created it through the uni system by signing up to WordPress. I  named the site ‘xe404kennychui’ and the site title as ‘XE404 – Digital fabrication methods projects’,while making sure that the blog privacy is public.

I then went explored multiple themes that wordpress provides and ended up using the “wilson theme”. Due to its clean and simple design, it enables easy navigation for the users and for me to edit.

When it came down to laying out the blog to document my progress, I simply used posts to present it. Due to the layout of the theme, I found using posts are easy to structure and present under the categorise I labelled as ‘weekly posts’.

For the ‘About me’ page i simply wrote about myself ,adding a photo of my family by snipping the image of the photo and uploading it on to wordpress, listing my hobbies and included my favourite video by copying the url video and pasting it on to the page.

So far I found using wordpress quit fiddly to use. However over time I start to get the hang of the basic like what each icon does. Once i got my head around the interface like what does what, the most difficult part of using wordpress for me was laying it out and keeping track of whats going on. Because I found myself lost majority of the time but gotten better due repetition, trial and error, and tutorials that where upload onto student central.
