A bank holiday, we don’t meet up as volunteers but the draw of fading bluebells and the hot weather made me spend time alone in the wood. The value of maintaining and creating glades is now very apparent in the display of wild flowers. With the flowers come insects and all around feels alive. The colours are also vivid and fresh, no sign of diseases, the ashes are lazily unfurling their green leaves along with the beeches, the last to complete their crowns. Hidden amongst the quickening undergrowth are the twayblades – the woodland secret.
