What is a wellbeing state? How might we move towards a politics of Wellbeing? And how might we use this to counter the global rise of authoritarianism?

This – our network’s inaugurate workshop – will bring together renowned thinkers – Paula Biglieri (University of Buenos Aires), Kelly Gillespie (University of Western Cape), Siddhant Issar (University of Louisville) to discuss their recent work and apply it to the following questions:

Our focus will be, to:

• better understand the relationship between, and the means of measuring,
authoritarianism, democracy, and wellbeing;
• examine the social and political conditions that allowed for the rise of anti-democratic
politics;
• identify counter-strategies to respond to cuts in social welfare and the decline of ‘the
political’.
