Drawing for balance

Whats on your mind?Today is World Mental Health Day, which seems a good time to remind ourselves that drawing and other forms of creativity are valuable ways to help us create space in busy lives, pay attention to the world around us, express experiences and feelings and maintain a healthy physical and mental balance.

Most of the ideas in this section can contribute to good mental health, particularly the advice to  Draw something every day.  Taking just 5-10 minutes a day to stop and focus on an everyday object or concentrate on mark making, can become a form of meditation.

A Year of Drawing was a year-long drawing project organised by Make Your Mark, aimed to increase access to the arts for people facing mental health challenges and their carers through participatory drawing events. Find out more and download some excellent drawing ideas at the project website.
