Screen Printing with Natural Dyes

Test Print 1: Guar Gum Print Medium

Recipe for Guar Gum print medium:

10g Guar Gum

500ml boiling water

Mix the guar gum and boiling water together and then use a blender to smooth out the lumps as required.

Add natural dyes until you get the colour you want – test on scrap paper.

The medium can get a bit sticky and jam like so adjust consistency with hot water to get something that works.

Test Print 2: Wheat Flour Paste

30g wheat starch (white flour)

200ml cold water or cold dye solution

  1. Mix together until all the lumps have “dropped out”.

2. Heat gently whilst stirring until the mixture thickens.

The paste will thicken as it cools.

3. Add colour to desired tone.
