This induction is for MA students to undertake in the Book Arts Workshop, room 216, Grand Parade.
The induction will guide students through four simple book structures whilst inducting them on some of the useful equipment in the workshop.
At the end of the induction, students will sign a record of the induction and this will allow for future access to the workshop.
Students will be required to bring a device or laptop with them with which to watch and follow the online tutorials. The technician will be on hand to help if needed and to operate the guillotine.
Each workspace will be set up in advance with all the tools and materials required for the induction. The induction should take about 2 hours to complete. Students can work at their own pace.
When you arrive in the workshop please introduce yourself to the technician.
To maintain good air circulation in the workshop several windows may be open. As the temperature drops in the Autumn/Winter, you may want to bring an extra layer of clothing with you.
These are the four tutorials for the induction. Feel free to look at them before you come in to the workshop.
When you have finished the four book structures please tidy up your workspace. Glue brushes go into one of the pots in the sink.
You should also sign your record of induction with the technician as your induction is not complete without it.
Follow On Access to Book Arts:
When you have completed the induction you can use the workshop to make books/prototypes for course work. Wednesday afternoons have been assigned as priority access to the MA students. Students can drop in or prebook. To book a space in advance, please email Helen, the technician, H.email@example.com
