Time Out ranks Brighton as one of the world’s most diverse and inclusive cities
Brighton has been named the third most diverse and inclusive city in the world, according to a recent Time Out survey.
Time Out’s 2025 survey asked more than 18,000 people whether they would describe their home city as ‘diverse and inclusive’, and Brighton came in joint third place alongside New York.
We know that our international students feel welcome in Brighton and find the city to be inclusive. This blog explores all the ways Brighton champions diversity, and showcases why we’re ranked third in the world!
About Brighton
The city of Brighton is located on the south coast of England, just an hour from central London by train and only 30 minutes from London Gatwick International Airport.
Named one of the UK’s sunniest cities, Brighton is famous for its pebble beach, pier, and the Royal Pavilion – an 18th Century palace. The city is a popular tourist destination, both for visitors in the UK and internationally.
Brighton is a place where you’ll belong
Brighton is a city with a beach on the edge of countryside – big enough to be exciting, but small enough to feel like home.
It ranks among the top 25 cities for student quality of life and is in the global top 100 for best student cities (QS 2026). With over 14% of residents being students, you will feel welcomed from the moment you arrive.

Known for its welcoming atmosphere, Brighton has become a home to people from different backgrounds and cultures. As a result, the city has a strong sense of community and friendship.
The city has multiple places of worship for many faiths and established ethnic communities, so international students feel welcome.
Within the university, you can meet other students with similar interests by joining one of our many student societies. These range from faith-based groups, to cultural groups, to hobbies or subject interests – there’s something for everyone.
International cuisine
The city has a huge restaurant scene for international food, so you’ll be able to find comforting food that reminds you of home. Brighton has everything from traditional Middle Eastern mezze, to authentic Indian cuisine and Chinese dim sum.
You’ll also be able to find several international shops where you can buy authentic spices, ingredients, halal meat, and fresh produce.
Creativity and innovation
Brighton is a vibrant hub of creativity and self-expression, making it an inspiring place to visit. Whatever your interests – art, music, history or culture, there’s something for everyone.
Brighton has it all. From major events like the Brighton Festival, Brighton Fringe, Pride and the Brighton Marathon, to the city’s thriving small business scene and active community groups – the diversity is what truly makes Brighton unique.
