Welcoming overseas International Office colleagues to Brighton
Connecting teams from across the globe, we welcomed overseas colleagues from the International team to Brighton in December for a week of collaboration.
International Office colleagues met face-to-face with teams across the university, enjoyed multiple tours of our facilities, and checked out why Brighton is such a great student city.
For many this was their first time visiting the University of Brighton and the city, and was one colleague’s first international trip!
Assistant Director for International, Brían McNamara said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our overseas-based colleagues to Brighton. Colleagues were able to share valuable insights from their regions and gain a deeper understanding of the university’s operations.
“These meaningful exchanges sparked numerous collaborative discussions that will strengthen our collective efforts moving forward.”
Exploring our campuses
They also met with our academic schools to share insight, tour our facilities and take part in some fun taster sessions.
Moulsecoomb campus
Overseas colleagues were given a tour of our largest campus, which included viewing a student room in our Mithras halls accommodation, as well as a look around the gym and students’ union bar.
They also met with all four academic schools based here and were shown specialist facilities such as the robotics suite, the newly renovated Mithras House, our science labs, engineering facilities and media suites.
City campus
Visiting City campus gave colleagues an idea of what it’s like to study so close to the beach and iconic Brighton tourist spots like the Royal Pavilion and the Palace Pier. The School of Art and Media led a print screening taster session, where colleagues made art to take back home with them.
The team thoroughly enjoyed creating their masterpieces and have praised the school for providing such a memorable session.
Falmer campus
Nestled in the South Downs, a visit to our Falmer campus really highlighted to colleagues how quickly you can go from being in the city to being in the countryside.
They also had the chance to tour our Falmer teaching facilities as well as the new sports and health complex.
The social side of Brighton
As well as professional meetings, there was plenty of non-work related opportunities to allow the International team to make meaningful connections with each other.
Colleagues based in Brighton were able to show off all the city has to offer with fun socials like glow in the dark mini golf, board games and even a trip to the SU bar!
International Recruitment Manager for Asia, Sarah Kaiser, who organised the visit (with help from colleagues in the International Office) said: “It was a great experience for overseas colleagues to visit the university and meet colleagues that they liaise with virtually face-to-face.
“Colleagues were able to share their insight and experience in-region with departments around the university, which enabled productive conversations about how we can work together better moving forward.
“Thank you to all colleagues across the university who engaged with our very busy schedule and went out of their way to make our overseas team feel welcome.”
We thoroughly enjoyed having our overseas team members here in Brighton and look forward to future visits!
