UBIC students celebrate the start of summer in the sunshine

After completing their degree preparation courses, University of Brighton International College students celebrated in style at a fun-filled afternoon last week. 

UBIC students and staff gathered to celebrate the end of their course and the start of summer at Kaplan Living in Brighton.  

There was plenty of fun and games, from Connect 4, to hula-hoops, ball games and even a live performer on stilts!  

It was a lovely afternoon, with lots of students enjoying the entertainment and spread of food on offer. Students enjoyed a bit of English seaside life with the appearance of an iconic Mr Whippy ice cream van.  

Many of the students got the chance to talk to International Student Recruitment Assistant, Fernando Davila Vargas, and Brighton student ambassadors about their future at the University of Brighton, and ask any questions about international student life.

We also had the chance to catch up with some students who were keen to share their experience of UBIC.

UBIC architecture student Jason Obore Okiror said: “I love how much the university welcomed us and allowed us to get used to the culture here, finding things that brought us all together.

“You might not have a clear picture of what you want to do, but just keep going and you will figure it out. Studying here has helped me with my creativity.”

He also shared some advice for future UBIC students: “You’ll be amazed at what you might find here, look around and [you’ll] be able to understand yourself more and more.”

Interim UBIC Director, Stewart Watkins, said: “It’s great to be able to get together and have the chance to celebrate the students and their hard work.

“It’s also a great opportunity to involve colleagues across the university and student ambassadors. We worked very closely on [this event] with the team from Kaplan Living, so it’s great for everyone to get together and celebrate such a happy day.”

We are so pleased everyone enjoyed some summer sun and congratulations to all UBIC students on completing their courses. We’re excited to welcome these students on to their degrees at the University of Brighton this September.
