You are invited to join our launch events for the UCU Rising campaign on Tuesday 6 September

  • UCU meeting: Tuesday 6 September 1-2pm. Hybrid: on Zoom (register now) and in Grand Parade 204. Non-UCU members welcome
  • Ballot launch rally for all staff and supporters, including speakers from RMT, CWU and Acorn. Tuesday 6 September 2:30pm outside main entrance of Grand Parade building.

Attend this meeting to hear about the stark effects of continuing pay cuts set against the background of the cost of living crisis. Come and have your say about how we can act collectively to resist the deterioration of our living standards and respond to the crisis in Higher Education. If you’re not a UCU member, now is a good time to join – online or by talking to a rep at the meeting or rally.

Our pay has been cut by 25% since 2009. With galloping inflation and energy bills going through the roof in October, we are going to get poorer. And this is just the beginning. There is money in the university sector, but Vice Chancellors choose not to spend it on staff. At UoB, staff costs have been reduced by 3.7% between 2020 and 2021.

Our local UNISON branch have recently smashed their ballot with an 82% ‘yes’ vote for strike action and now have a mandate for industrial action. UCU’s ballot opens on Tuesday 6th September. Across the country, workers are fighting back against pay cuts, excessive workloads and inequalities. Be part of the fightback.
