At its recent congress the TUC made a historic call to its 6.5 million members for a 30-minute workday campaign action to coincide with the global student strikeon the 20th September. UCU and UNISON members at the University of Brighton are committed to responding to this call. The issue has been raised the University’s  Senior Management and we have asked them to declare a climate emergency and facilitate this collective action as other institutions are doing.

We recognise that this is an emergency and the trade union movement has a great debt to pay to the school students for transforming the debate over climate change and making it one of the main priorities for working people. Brighton Youth4ClimateAction have called for our support and we will not let them down.  We are liaising with the Student Union and organising 30 minute workday actions at Brighton University sites on the 20th September, to which all trade union members, other staff and students will be invited to show their solidarity with the fight against climate change.  Look out for details of what will be happening on your campus.
