12th Feb – started this week with feedback on the website, I found that Des thought there wasn’t enough meat to the first task so i’ll go back and elaborate on the features and my choices on the page. there was also a mention on displaying you time management and planning so I will keep a schedule which I will add or link to the website.
The task this week is CAD and the first thing we’er doing is learning fusion 360 so i started to watch some fusion for beginners videos before i actually used the software. once i was done with that i began planning the making of the dice we were tasked to practice making.
During my planning phase i observed offer students methods until i came to Chunwai who showed me an extremely speedy method (method is mention in the project page)
I used this method for my first attempt and all went well but the final task of adding at fillet to all the edges showed my first issue.
first issue: i have made the pattern spread to far and this has ended up with dots being too close to the edges of the dice making it look peculiar. however its a simple fix i just need to make that spread when using the pattern a little smaller.
Dice 1st attempt
I made the dice two more times after, using the same method and making the small change to fix the first. i also timed myself these two runs for reference. both runs went well but the second was indeed better. i believe this is because the first run got me in the rhythm of going from one tool to the other making my runs the second time quite the bit faster.
after todays class i decided to go back to SolidWorks so I can compare the times and experiences of the dice on fusion and Solidworks and also also put in some more practice for the certification exam.
13th Feb – today I have come up with a plan for this and past weeks. In addition to that I also spent some time on the website making small organisation adjustments by listing the sub pages on the menu for the projects and also adding a the planning page to the menu.
15th Feb – Before i use SolidWorks again i’m looking at other pieces of CAD which i might fit time for some practice or at least right about at the end of the week. But for the moment I’ve returned back to Solidworks rather then going to another type of CAD to practice for the exam next week. i’m practicing Soildworks using the practice paper that was linked early on in the course, i already completed the first one so doing it again was quite simple but i didn’t have the while at that point to continue.
17th Feb – I continued practicing for the exam on SolidWorks and completed 2 more parts from previous certification exams i found. i will now go back and practice fusion and mimic those same structures.
It took considerably longer to make these with fusion I believe it took longer as I’m still not familiar with fusion and continued trying to use short cuts as CTRL 8 as I used them when practicing in SolidWorks before fusion.
18th Feb – I continued with making and recreating parts in solidworks and fusion, moving onto another practice part from a different exam. this time working on fusion was considerably faster as i took advantage out of all the shortcuts it has and at this point i had enough knowledge to fluidly work with the software.
I was met with one problem when making the piece in fusion but it still ended up being faster and easier then solidworks. the issue was that i couldn’t add a dimension but i realised it didn’t connect to the right line.
