This week we’re going to talk about lighting. I’m going to show you examples of natural lighting, artifical lighting and more!
- High Key Lighting and Low Key Lighting
The trilogy of photos below display high-key and low-key lighting compared to normal lighting. The different types of lighting are traditionally used as indicators for the tone and mood of an image. The high-key lighting gives a brighter and more angelic feel to the photograph, where as the low-key photo creates more of a moody feel.

2. Natural Lighting
Natural lighting is usually more bright – especially during daytime – and golden hour – when the sun sets and rises – is one of the best examples of amazing natural lighting. Natural lighting doesn’t involve lamps, lights or anything unnatural.

(Both of the photos above were taken using natural light)
3. Artificial Lighting
Artificial lighting can be amazing to create any kind of image you want. Studio lighting is a common form of artificial lighting that is commonly used for photographing models for magazines. However, artificial lighting can be as simple as a lamp in your house or even using fairy lights! I have previously experimented with artificial lighting by using fairylights and lights from arcade machines!

4. Experimental Lighting
Personally, I like to play around with lighting and different techniques. Below are some photos from a shoot I did using UV activated paint. For this shoot I had to use a UV lightbulb to get the paint to show up on my models face. The results were better than I could’ve hoped!

I hope this post has helped give you ideas for your own photography!
