The interdisciplinary team is made up of researchers who have different areas of expertise that inform the project. Dr Olu Jenzen, Senior Lecturer in Media Studies at the University of Brighton (PI) works on different aspects of the politics of popular culture and its social functions. As a historian of popular entertainment, Dr Nick Nourse (University of Bristol) has subject specialism in the specific intersection of history and popular music studies that is central to this project. Dr Matt Brennan’s (Edinburgh) specialism in live music venues directly informs the project’s pier music culture strand. Dr Lavinia Brydon’s (Kent) research expertise centres on the issue of cinematic space and place and her role will be to investigate the two related themes of representations of piers on film and the community pier as a space for outdoor cinema screenings. Her strong interest in cultural geography also supports the theoretical framework of the project as a whole. Archie Lauchlan is a Senior Lecturer in Broadcast Media based at the University of Brighton Hastings campus. He is also the Creative Director of Domestic Science, and currently producing a feature length documentary about Hastings Pier.
