Peer Observation Three [Being Observed]

I invited Rachel Clarke from the Diploma course to come and observe a lesson that I was teaching at the centre where I currently volunteer.  In an observed lesson with Gary Hicks he had encouraged me to use more speaking and listening in this ESOL class as he said that they were skills that the students desperately needed.

Rachel observed a speaking and listening lesson with a multi-level class where I had differentiated activities to allow all the students to fully participate.  Unfortunately I found that I had been a little too ambitious, setting the class different activities and in future will concentrate on the same activity for all the students.  The extra dimension of mass nouns was an interesting suggestion from Rachel. Uncountable nouns are those which can be counted and used with determiners such as several, many, these and those.  Mass nouns refers to uncountable nouns and but may offer a clearer explanation in pedagogical terms.

A clarifications quiz could also be helpful allowing students to use the quantifiers they’ve learnt during their grammar exercises.  Although I have been able to use the edible, much and many materials again I haven’t had time to use the clarification quiz yet.
